A: Miller Scholars have been notified as of May 1st, 2024. Candidates selected for the scholarship will undergo interviews in May and can expect notification by June 1st.
Q: When will the scholarship application open again?
A: Applications for the 2025 cohort of SoLa Scholars will open on January 1st, 2025
Q: How is the scholarship amount determined for each scholar?
A: This is a need based scholarship . Applicants will be required to provide their financial aid award letters at the time of their interview to determine their scholarship amount based on their financial aid gap.
Q: How does the Miller Full-ride Scholarship differ from the general scholarship?
A: The Miller Scholarship is specifically for scholars showcasing significant academic merit with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and aiming to attend private and out-of-state universities. The general scholarship is open to applicants attending any accredited 4-year institution and does not require a particular minimum GPA requirement.
Q: Is there a different application for the Miller Scholarship?
A: No, all applicants submit the same application. Applicants will find an option at the beginning of their application to indicate their interest and confirm their eligibility for the Miller Scholarship.
Q: Is the recommendation form required?
A: While the submission of a recommendation form can enhance the application greatly, it is completely optional and it will not be factored into the evaluation process. Therefore, the absence of a submitted form will not impact applicants negatively.
Q: When is the recommendation form due?
A: Recommendation forms must also be submitted by the March 31st, deadline. Please note that as long as applicants enter the contact information for their recommender, they can submit their scholarship application before the recommendation form is received.
Q: To qualify, do applicants have to live or attend scholars in the required zip codes?
A: Applicants must reside in the South LA zip codes specified in the eligibility section.
