About the Program

Art in Action is a 12-week internship that explores the intersection of art and activism through workshops, programming, and events featuring prominent artists and creatives of color. Students will receive $1,000 to develop community-centered art projects for their creative portfolios, with opportunities to network and receive mentorship from industry leaders who have worked on projects such as Black Panther, Space Jam 2, and Dear White People.

Requirements

  • Must be between the ages of 16-22

  • Must attend in-person meetings at SoLa Technology & Entrepreneurship Center

Class Time 

  • Mondays & Wednesdays

  • 6 pm - 8 pm

  • April 21 -July 10

Known for his role as Dr. Jackson Avery on Grey's Anatomy and his advocacy for racial justice and civil rights. He served as an executive producer of the Academy Award-winning short, Two Distant Strangers (2020), and the Tony Award-winning revival of Take Me Out (2022).

Paris Barclay

Emmy-winning Director,

Writer, & Producer

Known for his work on TV series like Scandal, NYPD Blue, The West Wing, and Empire. With his ninth Emmy nomination for an episode of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story in 2023, Barclay became the first Black director to be nominated by the Television Academy in every narrative dramatic category.

Created the Black List in 2004, an annual publication that ranks unproduced screenplays. He served as a development executive for Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment having previously served as Director of Development and Production at Universal Pictures
